Meltdown

ZL had her first major meltdown today.  At least her first meltdown that didn’t take place on an airplane.  And the culprit?  It seems it may have been this.

No, not Dolly.  Dolly and ZL get along fabulously.  See what I mean?

A closer look at what we think may have incited our meltdown.

That’s right.  Adorable socks that look like hi-top Chuck Taylor’s.  And they didn’t come by themselves.  They came in a set with socks that look like penny loafers, crocs, and flip-flops.  And I love them.  But apparently ZL does not.

When I say that we had a meltdown, I mean a 4-hour screaming, hiccupping, tears-snot-and-drool mess of a meltdown.  I think she may still be hoarse, actually.  She was inconsolable.  Our only relief was a couple of brief half-hour periods where she fell asleep while one of us was “wearing” her.  But she would wake up and immediately start screaming again.  And then…she fell asleep.  And Matt decided to take her socks off.  She woke up just a few minutes later with a huge smile on her face.  Coincidence?  I don’t know.  What I do know is that since those socks came off we haven’t heard so much as a whimper.  And we’ve seen lots of smiles and heard lots of giggles.  Lesson learned, I suppose.  We were trying to remember if we ever saw the babies in the care center with socks on?  Perhaps she’s just not used to her feet being confined.  She’s been a bit restless in her sleep as well, so we’re trying an experiment with nixing the footie pajamas.  Tonight she’s sleeping in something that is neither snug-fitting nor flame-resistant, but I’m not worried.  Will somebody please tell me how an infant catches fire in their sleep anyways?

A couple more gratuitous ZL pics just because I think they’re cute.

  1. Is it okay that I chuckled just a *little* bit? Too funny…. I know these are snug fitting, but have you tried Hanna Andersson pajamas? They don’t have feet, are super cute, and D really likes his. Just a thought…

lol…so how long will it be before you attempt sock experiment #2? ;)

  2. When a baby is crying, the first thing my mother-in-law does is take off the socks. Must be something to it…..

  3. I was wondering about Dolly and how she was doing with baby Z! Looks like they are going to make a great pair!!!

  4. Micah has been barefoot since we came home (although, he doesn’t mind wearing socks) — I just can’t get enought of his baby feet…show-off those little piggies!!!

  5. Millie falls asleep in her shoes she loves them so much. She throws a fit if you try to take them off of her.

We keep a bucket of water by her crib so is she catches fire for some reason or another we can put her out.
